WWF Hong Kong Visits WFO Headquarters in Brussel

Between the 3rd and 7th April, Waste Free Oceans welcomed Patrick Yeung, Marine policy manager for WWF Hong Kong, to Brussels in order to strengthen the partnership between the two organisations and learn more about the work waste free oceans does. During his time in Brussels, Patrick, along with WFO’s Alex Mytenka and Sarah Goerres, met with Ian Shepherd and Andrea Weber from DG MARE and representatives of Alain Cadec MEP at the European Parliament, as well as being presented with WFO’s alternative fish box which will be trialled by fishermen in Hong Kong.

Patrick also got to experience how marine litter is recycled in Europe and WFO’s Fishing for Litter technology in action during visits to the Netherlands and Nantes, France respectively, as well as meeting with ECOALF’s founder Javier Goyeneche to learn more about the vast opportunities to create new products from recycled ocean plastic.

WFO are pleased with the success of this trip and the continued strengthening of our relationship with WWF Hong Kong. Both Hong Kong projects have now moved on to the engagement stage with fishermen in Hong Kong, which hopefully will lead to first fish box tests in Mid-May.
